Ｓｈａｔｔｅｒｅｄ Ｒｅｌａｔｉｏｎｓｈｉｐ;
[ Quick note; this is an AU that takes off from another AU I’m doing with a different friend regarding Arthur ‘conditioning’ Alfred. Also bear in mind this is an abridged explanation as I’m not all that comfortable writing it all out for a few reasons. If you’d like to hear the whole story, you’re more than free to listen to it verbally explained by me on this stream. ]
✯ Story: For as long as Matthew can remember, he has loved Arthur unconditionally.
He is comfortable with these emotions, even if he was never very good at expressing them. — The feelings were mutual, the problem which arose was miscommunication and a lack of understanding between the two of them. Neither knew how to convey to the other and eventually Arthur moved on to Alfred who loved Yao and this did not sit well with Arthur.
So he broke Alfred and conditioned him into his ‘pet’.
One afternoon, Arthur finds himself dissatisfied with Alfred’s disobedience and turns to the son whom he has always adored for his mild manners and soft, knowing tongue — Matthew — for advice.
Problems arise when Arthur brings up Alfred and in an unconscious way, he steps on Matthew’s feelings for him without actually intending to do so. Bearing in mind he’s ignorant to these emotions, Arthur doesn’t understand his reaction to his words and, already a little mentally unbalanced, Matthew snaps and takes the first step to making Arthur his.
Incarnations cannot die. Not permanently, so when Matthew thrusts the knife through Arthur’s chest not once — but twice — he temporarily incapacitates him and brings him to the basement where he’s blindfolded and nearly stripped of his clothing.
From here…things become complicated. Arguments ensue, a failed escape attempt was made, and both wind up destroying that tentative bond that keeps them together through their own self-destructive tendencies.
Toward the end of it all, when the truth is finally given life and they confess how they truly feel, it’s much too late. Neither can fully trust the other and they agree to go their separate ways despite that faint little niggle of protest shouting in the back of their minds to tell them to stay together; that they can fix this and work together.
Shortly thereafter, Matthew disappears and unbeknowest to Arthur, the Briton assumes Matthew is still around when he realises his decision to depart from his side was a mistake and he returns to his home…
Only to find it painfully empty.
This throws Arthur into a panic as he begins to frantically search the halls of Matthew’s house, trying to find him, his efforts coming to no avail. His search ends in tears and a visit from a passing demon who hears the silent cries of his heart. The demon convinces Arthur that Matthew has died, and in a place where we cannot be found. This distresses Arthur and he does the only thing that comes to his mind; he signs into a contract with that demon.
He requests he be put into an eternal sleep so he can ‘see Matthew again’, but this time in his dreams, as he can never see him again while he conscious. The demon, delighted by the desperation born through his despair, agrees and puts Arthur to sleep, where the Briton can finally find some peace of mind is quiet solitude.
Whether Matthew will ever return and find Arthur in a pseudo state of death is left to mystery, and mystery alone.
